here’s to friendship in 2014

My fortune from PF Chang's

My fortune from PF Chang’s.

In a little while, 2013 will slip into the rear view mirror, and the fresh new vista of 2014 will open in front of us. Being creatures of habit, the Caron fam met for dinner at PF Chang’s tonight (thanks Mary!) just like we do every year. I’m not at all superstitious, but I love fortune cookies, and I got an especially good one tonight: “A faithful friend is a strong defense.” I think those might be words to live by this year. As the past year showed me again and again, with faithful friends, burdens become lighter, adventures become crazier and dreams become possible.

Thank you for reading my silly and sometimes serious stories.  Thank you for leaving a comment or sharing a post that you liked.  I love you all and consider you my friends. I hope the coming year brings blessings of joy, discovery, beauty, adventure and purpose into your life. And I hope you never, ever, ever give up on following your dreams wherever they may lead.  As C.S. Lewis wrote, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

If I were a savvier blogger, I could do what all the cool people do and tell you what my top posts were from last year were. But I can’t figure it out. I’ve spent an hour already, and I’d really rather watch “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” with Joe. So if I may, these were my favorite posts from 2013:

What to do if you accidentally shave someone’s head

31 days to a more organized home, flatter belly and happier children

Clothes don’t make the man (or woman)

The view from the bleachers

Sometimes the journey’s worth the destination, and other things I learned at Storyline

Objects in mirror are smaller than they appear

How to wash asphalt off your dog and other amazing things I learned this week

A skirmish in the culture war (this ship’s going down)

What’s your Harley, and how mad will you be if I drop a ladder on it?

Remembering my best friend, and how we laughed

Friends, it’s been an interesting year. Here’s to 2014–to friendship, to faith and to following our dreams.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.  Numbers 6:24-26

What are you looking forward to in the New Year? Do you have a “word” for the 2014?  Please share in the comments, I’d love to hear about it!

My word for 2014 is STILL. God wants me to be still before Him and focus on hearing His voice

    • Kathleen Caron

“Be still and know that I am God.” I can’t think of a better word Teresa. Blessings to you and your family!

  • Anne Peterson

Not sure what my word is for 2014. I’ve never really done that before, but I pray that I will be more responsive to him in the new year. It’s a good prayer for every year. Happy New Year, Kathleen.

    • Kathleen Caron

I’ve never done it either, and I hadn’t planned to do it this year. But when I opened that fortune cookie, I thought, “this is something really important for 2014.” I pray that you will have a wonderful year Anne. God bless you.

Good Morning Kathleen and Happy New Year.
I am not sure what my word this year will be.
Tossing up Declutter, Finish, or Soar.
I like Soar, leaving the past behind and moving on.

    • La McCoy

      Hi Pamela. Happy new year.

    • Kathleen Caron

      Pamela, I like SOAR.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
      They will SOAR on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
See that has both soaring and walking in it! Happy New Year my friend, here’s to fresh starts, renewed energy and clear vision!

      • La McCoy

        Dear Tink,
        Happy New year!
Did you choose your word for the year?
I am going to blog about mine on Monday.

        • Kathleen Caron

I can’t wait to hear Edel’s word! Tink is still asleep, but I will ask her when she gets up.

  • Joan

Happy New Year to you, Kathleen! I’m thankful for friendships, both near and far. And the ones we’ve made through Tribe Writers are especially dear to me. Wishing you all the best for 2014.

And my word for 2014 is compassion.

    • Kathleen Caron

Happy New Year Joan! TWs has been such a blessing, hasn’t it? I hope this New Year of 2014 will be a wonderful time of discovery and beauty for you. Compassion is a wonderful word for the year. “Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.” Ps 112:4. Yes, a good word.

Be still! Something I naturally did for almost ever, I had difficulty doing this past year. So, I need to get back to that. Wishing you all the best, always!

    • Kathleen Caron

Here’s to friendship Katina! You are always with us in heart. I look forward to your stories and wisdom and beautiful photos of Greece. Thank you for sharing a place I have never been to, but hopefully will get to see someday, I enjoy seeing it through your eyes. Blessings to you and your family in the New Year!

So thankful to be part of your world, Kathleen. You have been a great encouragement to me. And…I love your new look!

    • Kathleen Caron

Oh thanks Shelley, I can’t figure out what to do with it. I feel like when you look in your closet and can’t find anything to wear, nothing looks right and I keep changing the look, the header. Thx for the encouragement! and I’m thankful to be a part of your world, too :-)
